This three-hour workshop will show examples and teach you how to evaluate a location problem and move quickly, using small Nikon Speedlight flashes to achieve an optimum lighting solution. Joe McNally will discuss lighting issues that arise in the field when using these small, on-camera speedlights, as well as problems encountered with large productions and how to solve them. Instead of focusing on the specific buttons and dials of hot shoe flashes, the discussion will revolve around how to use them to maximum effect. Topics include techniques for shooting magazine assignments, on location environmental portraiture and other situations, plus an overview of skills needed to problem-solve challenging situations. Digital Workflow Live with Adobe Lightroom 2.0

In this new presentation, Seth Resnick will demonstrate his entire workflow in real time using Adobe Lightroom. He will begin with RAW files, adjust them for white balance and apply both local and global tonal corrections. Then he will create metadata with full IPTC information and keywording. The files will be ranked, organized and renamed using methods that comply with all international standards. Finally, using scripting and advanced actions, the images will be processed live, according to a range of needs—the submission guidelines of a stock agency, the black-and-white needs of a client, a series of images for the Web, and a series of high-res files for archiving purposes.

Hands-on work will include conversion from color files, using filtered color for traditional tonal effects, tone shaping with curves, and duotone controls for fine tonal tuning.
